Roulette 1

  • American Wheel – is a Roulette wheel with 38 numbered slots: numbers 1 to 36, 0 and 00.
  • Ball – is a small white ball, the main element of the game of Roulette. It is spun in the Roulette wheel. Fortunes are made and lost when this ball settles into one of the roulette slots.
  • Black – This is a bet that one of the black numbers will come up.
  • Block Betting – This is a strategy in some roulette betting systems. The player bets on all the numbers in a given section of the wheel.
  • Carre – A corner bet. (French)
  • Collone – A column bet. (French)
  • Column Bet – The roulette table layout is divided into three columns. Betting that the number will fall in one of those three columns.The payout for a Column Bet is 2:1.
  • Combination Bet – This is a general term for betting on more than one number at the same time using the same chip(s).
  • Corner Bet – is a bet on four numbers at the same time.The payout for a Corner Bet is 8:1.
  • Croupier – is a person who operates the roulette table.
  • Dozen Bet – is a bet on either 1 to 12, 13 to 24 or 25 to 36 at the same time.The payout for a Dozen Bet is 2:1.
  • Double-zero – is 00 number slot on the roulette wheel.
  • European Wheel – a wheel which contains the numbers 1 to 36, plus one zero. (Sometimes called the French wheel)
  • En Prison Rule – This rule is rarely employed today. It applies only to outside bets and is offered to a player when 0 or 00 come up. The player can lose half his bet or leave the full bet “in prison”. If he chooses the latter, the next spin determines the outcome of his original bet. En Prison is good for players because it reduces the house’s advantage.
  • Even-Odd Bet – is a wager on either an even or an odd number.The payout for an Even-Odd Bet is 1:1.
  • Five Number Bet – is a bet on 5 numbers: 0, 00, 1, 2, 3. It pays 6:1.
  • French wheel – is a Roulette wheel with only one 0 section.
  • Green Numbers – The table under the 0 and 00 is always green.
  • High-Low Bet – is a bet on either high or low number. Low numbers are 1-18, high numbers are 19-36. It pays 1:1.
  • House Percentage – The advantage the house enjoys on any given bet.
  • Inside Bet – is a bet represented on the table layout. There are several Inside bets in the game. They are 5-number bets, 6-number bets, Corner bets, Split bets, Straight bets and Trio bets.
  • Line Bet –  This is a bet on six adjacent numbers.
  • Low Bet – This is a bet that one of the lower eighteen numbers (1-18) will come up. (see High Bet)
  • Neighbors – These are the two numbers adjacent to the winning number.
  • Outside Bets – are Columns bets, Dozens bets, Even or Odd bets, High or Low bets and Red or Black bets.
  • Odd Bet – This is a bet that an odd number will come up.
  • Parlay or Press – This is a tactical play where the player lets his winnings ride on the next spin.
  • Red-Black Bet – is betting that the winning number will be either black or red. It pays 1:1.
  • Red – This is a bet that a red number will come up.
  • Run – This term designates a period in which the results defy the odds by a significant degree.
  • Six-Number Bet – is betting on six numbers at the same time.The payout for a Six-Number Bet is 5:1.
  • Single Bet – This is a bet on one number only. At 35-1 it is the highest paying bet in roulette.
  • Slot and Slots – The slots are the indented spaces on the wheel. They are all assigned a number and a color. The payouts are determined when the ball comes to rest in one single slot.
  • Split Bet – is a bet on two numbers at the same time. The payout for a Split Bet is 17:1.
  • Square Bet or Quarter Bet – This is a bet on a square of four numbers.
  • Straight Bet – is a bet on one number only. It pays 35:1.
  • Toke – This is a tip from a player to the croupier.
  • Trio Bet – is a bet on three numbers at the same time. It pays 11:1.
  • Wheel Checks – These are the unique chips used exclusively at the roulette table. They cannot be used to place a bet in any other casino game.
  • Zero – is a slot numbered 0.
